Kurt Workholding introduces new 5-axis vises and zero-point pallets

New vises featuring quick-change jaws are the perfect companion for the new range of zero-point pallet options.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 1, 2024 – Minneapolis, Minn. – Minneapolis-based Kurt Workholding is expanding their
5-Axis Workholding lineup with a range of new products, including three vise models, manual pallets, manual quick-release pallets, and pneumatic pallets with 96 mm zero-point docking. New vise models feature three snap-on, snap-off jaw options, easy adjustment, and side pull-studs for automated pick and place.

New Kurt PFW vise and quick-change pallets

New PFW420, PFW440, and PFW460 models dock on the Kurt 96 mm pallets and other compatible 96 mm systems. 4-inch quick-change jaws and zero-point mounting will speed machine setup and job changeover. Jaws can be easily changed while the vise is mounted in a machine or—with the Kurt zero-point pallet system—quickly removed and replaced with the turn of a hex bolt, push of a button, or with pneumatic actuation. Like the smaller Kurt PF Series 5-axis vises, the PFW Series features serrated, dovetailed, or machinable jaw options.

Designed to be an asset for small shops or scalable for large enterprise applications, the 5-axis ecosystem allows a shop to make a minimal initial investment and add more Kurt vises and pallets as needed. Zero-point mounting with a common pull stud pattern across the Kurt lineup ensures ongoing product compatibility.

“Our new vise and pallet options represent a shift in the way we’re thinking about product design and compatibility. The new zero-point lineup allows customers to mix and match pallets and vises for quick setups and more flexibility. We’re also bringing 96 mm mounting to more traditional machining vises like the DX6 so that this system will work across multiple machine applications.”

Jeff Lenz, Executive Vice President, Proprietary Products, Kurt Manufacturing

In addition to the new 5-axis vise models, Kurt is introducing a range of new zero-point pallets. Designed as a comprehensive mounting system for the new 5-axis vise models, 5 pallet options are available including: two manual pallet sizes with a 96 mm pattern and one with a 52 mm pattern, one quick-release manual pallet with a 96mm pattern that locks and releases vises with a single mechanical button push, and an air-actuated pallet.

“I’m especially excited about the air pallet,” said Chuck Milam, Sales Manager, Industrial Products, Kurt Manufacturing. “This is an affordable, off-the-shelf option for Kurt customers and for our Custom Engineered Team when designing automated machine tended systems that need to swap multiple 5-axis vises in and out of a machine.”

The pneumatic pallet offers Kurt customers an automated zero-point mounting system that can be configured for remote control by an operator or fully automated using a machine tool controller, robot, or PLC.
